In Which Cases Is Revision Rhinoplasty Aesthetics needed?

Post Date: 1/18/2021

Rhinoplasty surgery to eliminate the previous nasal surgery's negative results is called Revision Rhinoplasty Aesthetics or Secondary Rhinoplasty. In this operation, also called Nose Correction Aesthetics, the rhinoplasty results negatively affect the patient's general appearance  and mental health and are corrected with small touches and more severe techniques.

According to the general literature, there is a need for a nose correction surgery between 5% and 10% after the   rhinoplasty operations are performed. Each rhinoplasty is planned according to the person's face shape, body type, nasal condition, and discomfort such as breathing problems. Whilesome patients may need a bone filing,  some patients may need cartilage transplantation, so each rhinoplasty is personal. As a result, permanent changes are made in the bone and cartilage tissue in the nose, and improvements are made in the nose's shape and functions. However, after the operation, one-fourth of the patients may complain because their discomfort continues or they do not have the aesthetic appearance they want. In this case with Revision Rhinoplasty, the problems that the patient complains about are corrected.

Typical  rhinoplasty surgery to achieve its final results takes approximately one year after the operation. Therefore, patients who are not satisfied with rhinoplasty results should wait between 6 months and one year before applying for revision rhinoplasty surgery. After the examination performed by the surgeon, a specialist evaluates whether the person can have a revision rhinoplasty operation or not. Suppose the patient wants to have a secondary rhinoplasty in a shorter time than this period. In that case, the results will not be efficient enough. However, in some cases, if problems such as severe deformities and nasal tip drop have started to occur, it may be appropriate to perform secondary rhinoplasty surgery from the 3rd month.

After Rhinoplasty the tip of the nose may be narrower or wider than desired. The nostrils may look asymmetrical, or the nose's tip may be sagging or steeper than expected. Since the area's length between the nose and lips is not suitable for the face shape, an artificial image can be obtained.  Sometimes there is a collapse in the nose's sidewalls, and breathing difficulties may occur as a result. The arched appearance on the nose's dorsum may continue or conversely; there may be a collapse on the back of the nose.

In addition to all these, there may be the continuation of the previous septum deviation problem, the development of excess scar tissue inside or outside the nose, and soft tissue problems. Here, for all these reasons we listed above and more revision rhinoplasty surgery may be needed.

Revision rhinoplasty aesthetics are divided into major and minor  Minor operations include smaller touches such as a light filing process, while significant operations are much more comprehensive.

Suppose a patient who wants to have a revision rhinoplasty does not encounter a significant problem in the healing process  after the first operation and smooth healing of the tissues. In that case, it is recommended that the doctor who performed the primary rhinoplasty operation, that is, the first operation. However, what is important here is the patient's trust in his doctor. Suppose the patient thinks that the second operation to be performed by his doctor will bring unsuccessful results. In that case, he should seek the help of another specialist in the field of secondary rhinoplasty. Revision rhinoplasty operations performed are more complicated than rhinoplasty operations performed for the first time. The surgeon should determine the changes that have occurred due to the first surgery and proceed accordingly. It can sometimes cause operation times to take longer than expected.

Although it is a difficult decision, the important thing is to have the appearance that the person will feel happy and confident.
If the first operation performed for this purpose did not give the desired results, the patient should meet with his doctor, and a new route should be drawn without wasting time. If you consider having rhinoplasty surgery, contact us right away to get a free consultancy service from Prof. Dr. Selçuk İnanlı
